About six months ago, I cut my hair…
At the time I was beginning to get really bored with my hair and frustrated with it’s never ending dry spell. As a natural I know that my hair is constantly going to need to be moisturized but I just found it hard to keep up with it. Partially because I’m lazy and don’t like doing my hair, it takes too long and sometimes my focus is on other things. And partially because my hair tends to be super dry and won’t stay moisturized throughout the day. I’m struggling to find a method and products that work for my hair but that is also inexpensive.
Let me take you back to the year 2013 when I decided that I didn’t want to put relaxers in my hair anymore and wanted to grow healthy long hair. I had really short hair Bbut before that it was long up until I started doing it myself. My hair just kept coming out and so I decided to go natural with the help of many naturals on YouTube. I didn’t do the big chop I just decided to transition. Looking back now I wish did because I feel that my hair would have had a fresh start.
Any way I started to put my hair in twist and puffs. I also at one point put braids in my hair. I also wore crochet twist as well. I tried many styles some failed and some worked. I lost my patience many times thinking that my hair would never grow. I had to remind my self that I was learning so every thing was trial and error and that it would eventually get longer. For those of you who are wondering I never once thought about relaxing my hair again. The best thing I did during this journey was document it. It helped me realized that I was doing something right and it showed me how far I had actually come in this journey.
So here are a few photos from my journey…
Year 2013- 2017
Bringing it back to January of 2018 I wanted to try something different I felt like my hair had become unhealthy. I had slight heat damage in some areas and wanted a different style. Plus I found my hair hard to style and figured I cut the back really short. I really wanted a tapered look. Ya’ know, short in the back and it get’s longer toward the front. I didn’t have money to go to the salon and plus it was the spur of the moment so I Just grabbed some scissors and started cutting. I didn’t do too bad of a job, I was actually really satisfied with it. I also didn’t go as short either which was okay.
It’s been 6 months since I cut It and my hair has grown back almost to it’s original length And I didn’t even realize it until I looked back at photos.
Before the cut
After the cut
Overall I am happy with my decision to cut my hair and happy with it’s growth. I don’t know what I want to do next, although I have been contemplating whether or not I should cut it really low but get it cut professionally.
Let me know if you want to know more about my hair journey or what I do to keep my hair healthy. Thanks for reading!
